The article on electricity tariffs details what electricity tariffs are available in Hungary, and explains the details and application of the H tariff.
When we use our electrical appliances, we often don't think about the electricity they use. In Hungary, there are also a number of electricity tariffs, some of which are available at a reduced price. One of the best known of these is the night-time tariff, but with the spread of air conditioners and heat pumps, the H tariff is becoming more popular.
The electricity tariffs are as follows:
- A1 tariff: This tariff is for general use and is available at the same price at any time of the year.
- A2 tariff: The price of the A2 tariff is affected by the date of use. It is more expensive at peak times and cheaper at night and weekends.
- Tariff B: Tariff B was previously called night-time electricity. It can be used off-peak, usually at night, at a reduced rate, and is particularly suitable for boilers.
- Geo tariff: The tariff that can be used for renewable energy sources such as heat pumps. The supplier will interrupt the electricity supply twice a day.
- H tariff: This tariff is specifically linked to heat pumps and renewable energy sources and is only available during the heating season, from 15 October to 15 April.
The history of the H tariff dates back to 2010, when Decree No 70/2009 (4.12.2009) of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs allowed the public to benefit from it. The tariff has always been cheaper than night-time electricity.
Tariff H is the ideal choice for appliances such as heat pumps, circulating pumps and solar systems. It excludes appliances such as infrared panels or electric heaters.
To apply, you must first contact your electricity supplier and fill in the application form. You then need a registered professional to connect the electricity, as only they can do this. When connecting to the H tariff, a separate meter must be installed in your home to keep track of your consumption and bills.
Devices that can be selected on the basis of the SCOP value:
- Up to 6 kW: 4.1 SCOP
- Between 6.1 kW and 11.9 kW: 3,8 SCOP
- Above 12 kW power: 3rd SCOP
When choosing between the Geo tariff and the H tariff, an important consideration is the type of heating system you want. If the air conditioner is only used as a supplementary heating mode and is also used in summer, the Geo tariff may be the better choice. If you heat entirely with a heat pump, the H tariff may be preferable.
The H tariff is a good option if you are planning a retrofit or looking for green energy solutions. You can even hook up your existing appliances to reduce your overheads. Tariff H is available throughout the country and equipment is not affected by power cuts as it is available without interruption.
